What are the different AHRI standards?

Here are some common AHRI standards you will see associated with AAON Products.

AHRI standards and certifications ensure all manufacturers who submit to AHRI certified testing are all consistent in their approach to these units and the performance data they publish.

AHRI 210/240

Products: Unitary Air-conditioning and Air-source Heat Pump Equipment with capacities less than 65,000 Btu/h

The objective is to define and establish the testing requirements for unitary and air-source heat pump equipment that are less than 65,000 Btu/h. For products greater than this capacity, they will then fall under the AHRI 340/360 standard.

This standard is applicable to factory-assembled systems that are less than 65,000 Btu/h. The equipment must operate using electricity and contain a vapor-compressor refrigeration system. Split systems must be designed and built for a specific pairing to qualify.

There are numerous exclusions to this standard such as window AC units, portable AC units, or packaged terminal units (most often seen in hotels). Consult the latest standard for the full list.

AAON Products:

  • Alpha Class
  • Packaged Rooftop - RQ Series
  • Split Systems – H3/V3 and CF Series

AHRI 340/360

Products: Commercial and Industrial Unitary Air-conditioning and Heat Pump Equipment.

The objective is to define and outline the testing requirements for unitary commercial and industrial air-conditioning and heat pump systems. This standard also has size requirements stipulating equipment must be greater than 65,000 Btu/h.

This standard can only be applied to systems that were factory-assembled (or factory designed for field pairing), operate electrically, and contain a vapor-compressor refrigeration system.

There are quite a few exclusions to this standard, for example water-source heat pumps that are defined in the ANSI/ASHRAE/AHRI/ISO Standard 13256-1. Consult the latest standard for the full list.

AAON Products:

  • Alpha Class
  • Packaged Rooftop - RN Series
  • Split Systems - H3/V3 and CF Series

AHRI 365

Products: Commercial and Industrial Unitary Air-Conditioning Condensing Units

The objective is to establish definition and testing requirements for commercial and industrial condensing units. This standard applies to factory-made equipment greater than or equal to 135,000 Btu/h. The equipment must also be of the mechanical compression type and driven by electricity.

AAON Products:

  • Condensing Units – CF Series

ANSI/AHRI/ASHRAE/ISO 13256-1

The objective of this standard is to define testing methodologies and rating criteria for water-to-air and brine-to-air heat pumps. Equipment must be factory made, electrically driven with a mechanical compression. Equipment under this standard could be residential, commercial, and industrial.

AAON Products:

  • Water-Source Heat Pumps:
    • Packaged Rooftop – RN and RQ Series
    • Vertical Self-Contained – SB Series
    • Modular – M2 Series

AHRI DOAS 920

Products: Direct Expansion-Dedicated Outdoor Air System Units

The objective of this standard is to establish clear definitions and specify testing criteria for DX-DOAS units.

This standard only applies to commercial or industrial products, that were factory assembled and have an electrical energy source with a refrigeration system that is vapor-compression.

There are exclusions to this standard, for example this standard cannot be applied to Sensible-Only 100% Outdoor Air systems.
