Standard Descriptions:

CAN/CSA-3.7 = This standard pertains to the safety and performance regulations for newly constructed gas fired central furnaces. It applies to heaters whose primary purpose is to provide process heating to non-occupied spaces within commercial and industrial buildings. This means areas in a building which are not typically occupied with people. This is the Canadian Standard.

CAN/CSA-2.6 = This standard applies to newly produced gas fired-duct furnaces, packaged heaters, and unit heaters with input rates up to and including 10,000,000 Btu/H and utility heaters with input rates up to and including 400,000 Btu/hr. This applies to units that use natural gas, petroleum gases, or a duel fuel type of unit. This is the Canadian Standard.

ANSI-Z83.8 = This is the American standard that applies to the same applications mentioned in CAN/CSA-2.6. This standard applies to newly produced gas fired-duct furnaces, packaged heaters, and unit heaters with input rates up to and including 10,000,000 Btu/H and utility heaters with input rates up to and including 400,000 Btu/hr. This applies to units that use natural gas, petroleum gases, or a duel fuel type of unit.

CAN/CGA-2.3 = This standard applies to Canadian units of automatically operating gas-fired central furnaces for residential, commercial, and industrial structures. This applies to units having inputs up to and including 400,000  Btu/hr.

ANSI-Z21.47 = This standard applies to forced-air type central furnaces that use natural gas or petroleum. Central furnaces are designed to supply heated air through ducts to spaces remote from or adjacent to the appliance location. The standard also covers central furnaces equipped with automatic vent damper devices and for installation in manufactured homes, vehicles, buildings, and outdoor installations.

CAN/CSA-2.3 = The Canadian standard that is the same as ANSI-Z21.47.

ANSI-Z83.4 = This standard applies to non-recirculating direct gas-fired heating appliances that are used to supply building infiltration, replace building air that is exhausted, offset building conduction heat loss and provide outside air ventilation. This standard is used for units only in commercial and industrial applications.

ANSI-Z83.18 =  This standard applies to recirculating direct gas-fired heating appliances in commercial and industrial applications. This is for newly produced units whose purpose is offset building conduction heat loss and provide outside air ventilation. Ventilation air to the heater is ducted directly from outdoors and the products of combustion generated by the heater are released into the air stream being heated. This standard applies to heaters with discharge air temperature of 160°F (71°C) or less.

UL-1995 = This standard is a harmonized standard for the United States and Canada for heating and cooling equipment. The scope of the standard covers a broad range of HVACR equipment, including both residential and commercial fan coil units, heat pumps, liquid chillers and more. After December 31st, 2023, it will be replaced by UL-60335-2-40, which requires more rigorous safety testing to take place.

CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 236 = The same standard application as UL-1995 but for Canada.
